The Brief

Tech news that matters

Note From The Editor

Today is a significant milestone for The Brief. In short: I’ve rebuilt it from scratch with a new content management system. There are no major changes to note yet, other than a new design, but I have a much better framework to build on. I want The Brief to serve readers as well as it can, and this is a big step towards that.

Most things are just as they were. You can still get the daily briefing by email, RSS, and on Twitter. The only change is it goes out at the end of the day instead of the beginning of the day. Email subscribers might have noticed some technical difficulties recently. That should all be done with now. The Daily Briefing can also be easily found on the site using the link to the index at the top of the page, or the link in the sidebar that is always to the most recent briefing. The RSS isn’t a full feed at the moment, but that’s a temporary technical limitation, it will be back to a full feed soon.

This does come with some improvements. News items have their own permanent links now, which will make it much easier to link to specific stories. There’s a new RSS feed that will send every story as it’s published on the site. (This might need to be made more obvious but the RSS and social icons on the top right of the page always link to the news feed if you’re on the home page or a story’s permalink, and to the daily feed if you’re on a daily briefing’s permalink.)

More to come soon. Articles have been ripped out for now but will be back. Member perks are coming too.
